Pastor Mark Driscoll and Reconciliation

Doug talks about the need for pastor Mark Driscoll to embrace the ministry of reconciliation before he publishes another book, preaches another sermon or starts another church. This is a thoughtful but focused discussion on why every minister must take reconciliation seriously and why Mark Driscoll’s new book is ultimately problematic.

Unfortunately, narcissists see no wrong in themselves and therefore see no reason to repent. The self-deception is strong. The prideful spirit has been welcomed and nurtured to the point that repentance, which requires humility, is seen by the narcissist as what others should bring to him since they are persecuting HIM. Narc’s will at all costs avoid exposure, which real repentance and reconciliation would effectively do.

Derek Prince has stated the anytime manipulation, intimidation, and domination are being utilized it is the spirit of witchcraft and domination is the goal. It isn’t just a “personality disorder” as the mental health professionals label someone displaying Mr. Driscoll’s behavior.

God can redeem anyone, but redemption requires we first see our sin then humble ourselves before Him. That won’t happen when you’ve elevated yourself as the supreme authority in your own life.

I hope there is a crack in Mr. Driscoll’s mask in which the Holy Spirit’s ministry can enter. Thank you for your challenge to him on behalf of his victims and the body of Christ at large. It needed to be said and you said it well.

Agree with Harriet. Just heard this podcast, Doug. Amen and amen. Driscoll needs to do the work of repentance for those he hurt, for the Kingdom and his own soul. He will stand before God one day and have to answer for every single person he hurt.

There is a difference between forgiveness and repentance. You’re correct that today’s church leaders have to finally get this right in order to help their people become whole and healthy … both victims and perpetrators.

Don’t get me started on the quintessential irony that any publishing house that has Charisma in its name is fronting a book by him…
